Overview
Section titled “Overview”Supertrend has two parameters: ATR Period and Multiplier.
ATR Period
What It Controls: ATR lookback for volatility measurement.
Default: 10 bars
How It Works:
- Lower values (5–10): More responsive, more signals
- Standard values (11–16): Balanced
- Higher values (17–25): Smoother, fewer signals
What Happens at Extremes

Multiplier
What It Controls: ATR multiplier controlling distance of Supertrend from price.
Default: 3.0
How It Works:
- Lower values (1.0–2.0): Supertrend stays close to price, flips frequently
- Standard (2.5–3.5): Balanced sensitivity
- Higher values (4.0–6.0): Supertrend far from price, rare flips but late signals
What Happens at Extremes
Multiplier = 1.5
- Very close to price, frequent flips
- Good for short-term scalping
Multiplier = 5.0
- Far from price, rare flips
- Only captures major trend changes
